What happens to minors who are convicted of theft and tresspassing?

Most likely put on juvenile probation. That would likely require strict curfews and not being able to hang out with other friends that may or may not be on probation. It gives the parents an upper hand. So basically if you misbehave all the parents have to say is "I'm done" The state will then put you where they want you.

Also depends your previous dealings with the police.

First of all, in today's juvenile criminal justice system, what was said by an earlier poster is true. Namely, not enough is happening when these petty crimes are committed. However, we cannot seem to find a "happy medium" where punishment is concerned. The criminal justice system, where juveniles are concerned, attempts to patternize all punishments rather than approaching the problem from a more intellectual perspective. Each incident of juvenile crime needs to be judged on it's own de-merit. Right now, either the punishment is far too severe, or far to lenient to fit the crime committed.
In many cases, these offenders are, indeed, sent to some juvenile incarceration facility. And again, in many cases, they are sexually assaulted. Incidents such as these, when inflicted upon the pubescent offender, can often return to society a young man or woman that is far more disturbed than they were before incarceration.
