You hit the nail on the head first shot! I do that, not ALL the time, with my OL. The other thing you should think about though, is that professional sports players do it with members of the same sex. It's a way to also show "teamwork", and just all around good job. The other alternative of course, is for him to go 180 degrees around and about 20 or so inches higher. (I don't slap those. She would kick my butt!)
Half the times I'm with the OL, I got my right hand in her back pocket! (Guess where her left hand is?) And she has given me a good smack on the kiester at certain times. I don't mind, and I don't think she does either. It's just one of those things.
Being 46, and single, I find that the more "slap and tickle" (Not the S & M kind!) you do, in private and in public, the more comfortable you are with each other. And comfortable is good. Your BF would not take advantage of touching your posterior in public unless he knew you would be a good sport about it. If he considers you a good sport, you are more than halfway to a ring. (This of course, from a male perspective!)
But the main thing is yes, he is telling the world (Or at least everyone that is present at the time!) THIS IS MY LADY! I CAN TOUCH HER BUTT! IF YOU CAN"T SEE IT YOU WILL HEAR IT! STAY AWAY! SHE'S MINE!
Of course, if it gets painful he could just be a control freak and abuse person. As long as he don't say stuff like: "LOOK AT THAT FAT ***" when he smacks it, or other silly s*** that I've seen, you are safe. A playful butt smack is a good sign. Means he likes to call attention to you in public. I could go on and on. But I won't. (Or should I have said, "butt" I won't.)
Hope this helps. Just remember that it's something you can make him stop just by asking. I have been asked not to touch her butt in front of her family. I don't. It's easy, since the alternative is not to be able to touch the butt anymore at all! (And it's such a nice butt!) Take care and happy holidays. Ciao!

I have often wondered that. My husband does it to me all the time-like people can't tell I'm his we have a 3 year old and I am freakin huge-6 months pregnant. Maybe it's an affection thing lol.

It is kind of like saying "she's mine", yes. Whether you find that flattering or demeaning is up to you. On the one hand, it does mean he thinks you're worth showing off, and is really happy to be with you. On the other hand, y'know, implication you're property.
Though don't assume he actually thinks that second bit. A lot of arguments start for no reason because of that.

It's definitely an ownership thing - bred of insecurity I think.
You see some young couples walking down the shopping centre and the lad is basically got his finger right up. But in the end I think if a girl doesn't slap the guy publicly, he must think it's ok.

I would rather hold your hand than smack you on the rear in public. I would save the spanking for private times lol

Yes - it's an ownership display. It also includes dominance and familiarity: he demonstrates his dominance over you by hitting you (and you not hitting him back) and familiarity because of the body part he touches. Voila!

No actually I do it to hubby more than he does to me. Knowing you can be sexual in front of others is a great step of trust and excitement.. I love it. I get a kick out of it.
