My best firend's boyfriend's friend, lets call him logan, when logan was only 2 or 3, his father killed his mother and was sent to jail, then his father starved himself to death. Logan never participates in class, never talks to anyone, never does his homework, never does any class work, always slouches, and hardly ever eats. I think he needs some help, I don't know how, but somebody needs to help him realize that what he's doing isn't going to help him or his parents. Any suggestions?

Actually he's my friend's boyfriend's friend's little brother so he's only 11.

You don't say how old Logan is in your post. I think that makes a big difference on what sort of help he might appreciate.

It sucks he has to live with this sort of knowledge about his family. And sucks he wont' have a normal childhood. But, it is not an insurmountable obstacle.

A professional counselor could help him start to work through the issues surrounding his parents. Someone who knows how to unstick people who are sort of spinning their wheels for a while.

Meanwhile, you and your friend and her boyfriend (etc...) could be good friends to Logan by being supportive and letting him making sure he knows that you appreciate him for himself. Inviting him to your home for holidays and generally making him feel like one of the family and not like the odd man out.

Best of luck.

So sad, so sad. I shed honest tears. You could try becoming his friend.
Neat Idea:::If it's his b'day soon, get all your friends in class (and your teacher) to throw a big b'day surprize party for him. Or try to get a lot of people to be his friend. Friend's boost your confidence...believe me...I KNOW!
