Ok, I know this is stupid but I'm too tired to figure this out:

'After drinking the required volume of Mountain Dew, a student's pulse rate rose from 72 bpm to 110 bpm after 10 minutes. Work out the percentage increase in heart rate.'

I've completely forgotten how to do this, so can someone please explain it?

Divide the increase by the rate before the increase:
(110 - 72) / 72
The answer is 52.78%.

In this case, the heart rate is increased in 10 minutes. Don't fall into this trick; SAT is known for asking such questions. Time is not needed in case. What we need is the rate of the heart beat, but a minor substraction is required before doing so:

1) 110 - 72 = 38
(Another trick to note: We need the 38, "NOT" 110bmp).

THEN:

2) 38 / 72 * 100% = 52.78

The % increase equal to the difference divided by the original then multiply the whole thing by 100. So, the difference is 110 - 72 = 38

% increase = (38/72) * 100 = 52.78%

Increase in heart rate = 110 - 72 = 38bpm

Calculate this increase as a fraction of the original heartrate
= 38/72
Percentage increase, multily the fractional increase by 100
= (38 x 100) / 72

I'll leave you to do the calculation ...

OK, I'll help.
the fractional increase is the increase divided by 72.
The increase is 110-72
So the fractional increase is (110-72)/72

the"percent" is simply 100 times the fracitonal increase, or...

100*(110-72)/72

Let the number be abcd. 1. The first digit is one-third of the third digit. 1b3d 2b6d 3b9d 2. The fourth digit is two times the second digit. a1c2 a2c4 a3c6 a4c8 3. The first digit and the third digit add up to twice the sum of the second digit and fourth digit. Adding first and third 1b3d = 4 2b6d = 8 3b9d = 12 Twice the sum of 2nd and 4th. a1c2 = 6 a2c4 =12 a3c6 =18 a4c8 = 24 3924
