My friend is married, does not work and is pregnant with her first child. Her husband works for his father's business and does not receive medical insurance. Can she get state assisted medical insurance even if her husband makes $50,000 a year?

I thought assisted medical insurance was for low income women and those in need. My friend is too lazy to work and she said she plans to lie if they can't get the medical with their income!

P.S. Its not me, I have crappy Blue Cross from my employer. lol

TELL HER BEWARE

Let her know that when she dose that and gets caught not only will she have to pay it back in full but the penilty fines are crazy. They will find out lieing dose not work. They can check and see that she is married and how much he makes.

It depends on the state but I know that in Illinois we have a program called All Kids and it dosent matter how much money you make if you are a child or are pregnant you are covered regardless of income. In arkansas they have a Plan A which is for low income families and Plan B for people in the middle like your friend. those are the only two states i know the actual facts for but almost every state has some sort of assistance. Tell her to call her local Department of Children and Family Services. they can help her find what she needs.

The cost all is determined by doctors and hospitals and can be very different from state to state and even city to city. What I suggest is to find a doctor that will work on a payment plan, this will allow you to have a lot of debt behind you even before the baby is born. Say the doctor changes a flat fee of $2,000 for a normal deliver (actual cost I do not know, but I think it can be higher or lower depending on your area) plus $100 per visit. So you will have about 12 doctors visits making that total of $1200. Bringing your aproxiamate bill to $3200 dollars, so over the time instead of paying it all in the end and $100 each time you visit, you could pay little by little each month and have a smaller bill in the end. Now with hospitals I know they will do payment plans after but I am not sure that is something you should look into. I know that with my deliver they offered a 25% discount on my total bill if I put a deposit of $500 or more down before I delivered. Which saved a lot of money. ( pre insurance it was around $10,000, after I was left with around $3,000 to pay, with the discount I saved about $750, plus the $500 I already paid. So I was left to pay about $1750, which wasn't as bad as my bill before) Look into all the options with your doctor (and try to find one that you like and will be the best price for you) and the hospital.

Well, in my state, I know a girl who is pregnant and between her and her husband their income is about $30,000, but they still can't get stae insurance. However, I'm sure the insurance/income thing is based on cost of living in your area. Definitely tell her to go to a free health clinic or planned parenthood because these are the places that WANT to help women in need.

She can't really lie cause they will check into it and if she does lie she will be responsible for the bills......I just had my 1st child last month and I was on Medicaid but my boyfriend and i are not married. My best friend applied for Medicaid cause her husband and her do not have medical ins. and he made to much and they were declined....So they will check his income because they are married, if they were not she would have no problem getting assistance. Hope that helps and tell your friend to GET A JOB!!!!LOL just kidding...

She would have to go to her local DCF office and apply. I don't think she will qualify for Medicaid with her husband's salary being so high. She could lie, and bring a letter from her father-in law stating a false income amount, but it just stinks because there are those who really are in need and makes it harder for the honest people to get the help they need.

I would tell your friend to go find a job while she still can or get her father-in-law to help them get health insurance. She will not qualify because her husband makes to much and she will get caught lying about their income. Because she will have to show the following information when she applies: birth certificate, social security card, proof of residency, driver's license, last years income tax forms with w-2s attached, pay check stubs, etc.

It depends on state. Ca (medi-cal) will usually give medical coverage to pregnant woman with or without a fee depending on income. She needs to check with the Department of Human Services near here.

She probably won't qualify for state assisted medical care. It would be pretty hard to lie about considering I do believe they ask for W-2's, and if she were to get away with it and caught it would be some pretty hefty fines and possible jail time.

Well they have you fill out the paper work saying what is made in the house hold. She will get caught if she lies, they ask for the pay stubs etc. My suggestion is she go threw an insurance company and pay the deductible.
