my dad is looking at them on ebay and doesnt know what is or isnt a rip-off

Low 400s is the current market price for a base system with one controller and nunchuk.
That's still a bit cheaper than a Playstation 3, but about $200 over retail. They'll probably release a new batch at the beginning of next year, so you should probably only buy one now if having one over the next month is worth an extra $200 to you.
Note that many people are advertising that it comes with 5 games, when really this is just the pack-in game Wii Sports that includes 5 different sports.
Be sure to factor in that extra controllers and nunchuks can go for around $70 a set.
Personally, I bought one and am a bit disappointed. I knew the graphics were only 480p, but it really does look bad on my 50 inch plasma HDTV, even with component cables. Also, some games would be better with traditional controls. The way it controls gets old pretty fast IMO.

$250 if you get to the store early enough. But i would try buy-it-know on ebay for like $400.

It lists for $250. It's a bit hard to get in stores due to short supply, but not THAT bad. At least two people I know bought it in a store for that price. I wouldn't pay more for one.

$250.00 is the official price, if you can get it cheaper that's great, not likely though. If you pay more than say $400.00 - $500.00 that would be a rip-off!
