Do you know what a simile is? If you figure that out, it will be easy to find a poem.

Hint: It involves the word "like" or "as".

whisper of wind

your eyes are like a whisper of wind through a grove of willow trees, a desert after a rain, a field of sweet green grass,
as quiet as a naughty puppy,
a thousand voices chanting for peace,
like a mischievous child, always in the wrong, the sound
of sleigh bells on a bitter winter night,
a fire in the wetlands after a
tornado
a party after everyone has left,
a piercing cry in the dead of night,
like a fresh, cloudless morning,
sunshine warm on my back.

like sparkling dew drops in the light of dawn, illumination,
faint and subtle, at the end of a dark passage,
a sour green grape, suddenly turned sweet, a dream
ending at midnight, a lost, lonely cat wandering through the streets of new york.

like a baby eagle, just learning to soar, like a crisp rose,
wilting with sorrow,
an empty church after a wedding,
a budding wildflower alone
in a meadow,
as gentle as a brook winding through the woods in the Spring,
an unfinished novel, a juicy, crunchy apple.

a crowd of angry protesters,
as calm as the sea at twilight, as soulful as a full moon
devoted as star-crossed lovers,
the silence after a gunshot, as promising as daybreak, just as the sun
begins its ascent,
an illusion of radiance,
a candlelight dinner,
the mourning of a loved one,
like when winter melts into spring,
like listening to the most beautiful music in the world

like a first kiss . . .

Maybe I Should Gaze Into Your Eyes More Often . . .

Smiles

A smile is like...
A rainbow after a downpour
A sunset full of vibrant color
A whiff of rain after a summer monsoon
Smooth silk under your fingers
A parabola graph
A parent's embrace
A dove flying over a tranquil sky
Hearing your favorite C.D.
A finished work of art
A glass of warm cocoa after a nightmare
A piece of triple berry pie
Receiving an "A" on a test
Your best friend giving you a much needed hug
A perfect spider web caught in the light
Completing a fabulous book
The last piece of a puzzle
The phone call you've been waiting for
A clean sheet of paper waiting to be written on
Sleeping in on a weekend morning

Lightning

Lightning is like an idea you know you should use, before it disappears
A desperate attempt to grab your hat on a windy day,
A cat pouncing on its prey,
A ski pole hitting fresh snow.
Like a rock thrown from the top of a mountain,
A helium balloon let loose by a child,
A landslide,
A tornado that strikes without warning.
Like a pine cone falling and hitting a squirrel.
Like a glass bowl of candy sliding off a table and shattering on the floor,
A tube of toothpaste being squeezed into the sink,
A crack in the sidewalk in front of your house,
A mousetrap being set off,
Like a gunshot.

The Classic One is Trees
It begins, I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree.
