Can she still get into college if she gets caught?? Please help, I love my friend but sometimes she can be such a dumb blond . . . .

Most schools run essays through one of a couple services that compares the content versus all published works.

They catch a lot of cheaters that way.

It's a bad idea.

It's a really stupid thing to do. First of all, your friend should know that many teachers have programs that can help them find out if a work is plagarized. Believe it or not, your teacher probably has a good idea of how your friend writes, so he/she will be suspicious of a plagarized essay. In all the time and effort it takes to buy a plagarized essay and hide the fact that it is plagarized, she might as well write the thing herself.
The consequences from plagarism can ranging from failing that assignment and/or the whole English course, to being suspended. I don't know if colleges can find out about this kind of thing, but if you've already been accepted and they do find out, chances are you won't be accepted anymore. And if she cheats in college, the chances are good that she'll get caught. I know that the consequences for cheating at my college are at the very least failing the course, and at the most getting suspended from or kicked out of the University.

I think as long as she scores Well on the big tests even if she does get caught she'll still be able to go to college.

Ok, lets start by telling her that some teachers (esp if the english teacher is tech savy..) Type in the topic and look through briefly online. (I read an article like this in my community newspaper. True Story.) Warn her that with these big detailed words its not going to look very convincing to the teacher. NOW WHAT IF she has to write an essay in classtime (for a test maybe) How is she gonna make the essay nearly as good as the last?! SHES NOT and it'll be a clear sign to the teach of plagaurism unless the teacher is a dumb### which some are.

There are computers programs designed to detect plagarism. A teacher can take a "suspect" phrase, sentence etc and enter it into the system & the program will search for possible plagarism.
If she gets caught, she may be put on academic probation but some schools have an honor code that this activity would obviously violate.

Let's not overlook that she will ruin the trust of her teachers from here on out if she is caught.

most school have programs that you can run a students essay or paper and find the source. The program is designed to point out plagiarism... so she will get caught. I do not know if she will still get into college or not, but she will fail the essay, and get in trouble at the school. Her best bet is to write the paper and save herself the money and embarrassment.

You are correct, it is a dumb move. If caught, it would depend on what the school's actions were. If she were expelled, then yes, it would hinder her admission into college. If she failed her class, that could cause her problems as well. Consequences are worse when you get into college if you are caught. Plagiarism isn't worth it. We all take shortcuts in our life - but we have to be careful when we go this route.

If caught, she will get a zero on the paper. She could hurt her chances getting in to a college of her choice. Teachers aren't as stupid as you think. Many use the Internet to look for just such behavior.

Worst idea ever..many negative things can happen such as receiving a 0.0 for the course or academic probation. Your instructor will suspect plagiarism in the first sentence of the introduction.

Each school has its own rules for plagiarism and academic theft. A zero grade for the paper is the minimum, A zero grade for the course can be leveled as well. Most schools put the person on academic probation and if it happens again they will loose their place in the school or future schools because of the lowered grade.

Well, it's illegal and she could get suspended or expelled, depending on school policy. If it ends up on her permanent record, then it could affect things later on. And a warning: a lot of teachers have started searching phrases and the like online to catch people who plagiarize.

Ultimately, she's got to make her own decision. If she has the facts and still chooses to do it, let her deal with the consequences of it.
