Like gambling, prostitution if it is legal means that more people know about prostitution as it is in the public eye so can result in more prostitution which is a bad thing.
Prostitution illegal underground can be a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because people are ignorant of it so they can live life more happily because they can't do it as they don't know about it happening or where prostition takes place. However it can be a bad thing for other reasons. Prostitiuties can get help to an extent, but most of the time they can't Also not many people think of the clients of prositition. I don't know what you think, but clients don't seem be able to get help for addiction when prostitution is driven underground.

When people say what harm can legalising it because it is an agreement from 2 (or more) consenting adults. What about clients who are in debt, can't resist temptation and are spenindg money which they shouldn't have on it. Also what if a client is spending money which should be spent on family?

Is it legal for one consenting adult to give money to another? Yup.
Is it legal for one consenting adult to have sex with another? Yup.
Why on Earth should they be illegal when you put them together?

Prostitution should be legalized. It is in many parts of the world. What makes you think it's bad? There is nothing bad about the interaction between two consenting adults. The prudery of the U.S. attitudes toward sex are a throwback from the days of the Puritans. They didn't like much of anything else either. Legal and regulated prostitution would definately cut down on some sex crimes and eliminate a bunch of others that are only crimes because society said they were. It would free up police to go after real criminals and also waste less of the taxpayers money that could be better spent on other things.
Wanting to have sex for sex sake is an addiction? Then I'm afraid there are 200 million or more addicts in the U.S. and billions through out the world.

It should be overground. Prostitution won't stop and by making it illegal it would only help spread STDs or crimes against prostitutes. Legal prostitution would help regulate the customers and check out if they're dangerous. It would help prostitutes evade venereal diseases by making sure they get a certificate clean bill of health which they need for a license issued by the state. That license would be renewed every 6 months and they would be given condoms or any other type of protection to stop unwanted pregnancies. With this the government would get more money and get a better source of income which would go to fund schools, hospitals or pay any debt. I think legal prostitution would be beneficial for everybody especially for prostitutes who expose their lives by standing on corners to whatever sick guy might kill them. The clients would know they're being taken care of becuase they would be given condoms too and shown the clean bill of health. Legal prostitution would help everybody.

Tough call. If it were legalized, it could be taxed (good source of revenue for the government), the men and women who worked in the field could be regulated (regular health checks and anyone found to have an STD is barred from work until it's cleared up, or, in the case of HIV, barred permanently), and legalizing it would do a lot for legitimizing it as a business (prostitutes who claim assault or rape would be taken more seriously). The problem is the whole issue of morality, and as long as we have the Religious Right in this country they'll fight any attempt to legalize prostitution tooth and nail...

Prostitution should be legal, but with licensing and an entity like the American Medical Association to oversee the process and avoid the spread of disease and unwanted pregnancies. Society should be educated of the dangers and risks involved. Licensed prostitutes insure that they are clean and know what they're doing, avoiding the risk from some dark alley bimbo or the beating from a crooked pimp.

Overground.
Taxes on the service can be used for addiction programs, education etc.
Stop the spread of social diseases.
Stop pimps from keeping the majority of the money, beating the prostitutes.
As far as people spending family money on it...well, they already spend it on alcohol, gambling and other " legal sins."

Three reasons. 1. In Christian culture, prostitution has usually been looked down upon as a vice, and either prohibited or highly taxed. The United States has inherited that understanding because of our prior English and European custom. Any kind of sexual behavior outside of monogamous, man-woman marriage was penalized. In the last 50 years, we have been re-examining that framework, as in the case of gay marriage, and in the case of the Supreme Court overturning all state anti-sodomy laws as recently as 2003 -- and even earlier in the Griswold case of Connecticut, in which the law prohibiting artificial contracteption was overturned. 2. Health concerns. The worry is that sexually transmitted illnesses would run rampant because of prostitution. I think the experience of Australia and of the U.S. state of Nevada may perhaps put the lie to that claim, because in those places prostitution is legal and highly regulated, the sex workers have routine testing, condom use, etc. 3. Pornography comes under a different heading -- the heading of Free Speech or Freedom of Expression. It's true that the actors do sex and get paid for their acting, but the filming of it and distribution is seen to be an issue of Free Expression, not of sexual merchandising. Perhaps it is just an accident of history that, because of folk like Hugh Hefner of Playboy and Larry Flynt of Hustler, pornography was examined under the issue of Free Speech.

I agree I think prositution should be legalized for the good of the client and the prostitute. It is legal in a few places i know of one county in nevada that it is legalized.I saw a report on it in this show called penn and tellers bullshit or something. It talked about the pros and cons of this subject.

Prostitution is unethical, morally negligent, and unsafe.
With that said, it is never going away. You can only be as picky as your options, so I would prefer that it be regulated, controlled, with some supervision such as in Neveda. Compared to the underground version on the streets, where prostitutes are isolated, alone and vulnerable to violent crimes.

As long as both parties are consenting adults what harm is there in prostitution. Legalize it and govern it for health concerns and underage participation.
