Counseling might be a good way to help you to heal. Marriage counseling where you and your husband is involved. The counselor could give you two ideas on how to make you both stronger that you may have never thought about. A great perspective to help you along the way. Think about that.

Yes we had counseling, it helped a lot, and being the one who didn't want to cooperate, I say that you have to give the person that's resisting a chance to go. After about a dozen sessions, I finally started to realize my husband was sincere and was starting to make progress in areas I was unhappy with, I didn't think it was possible for him to change. But it takes TIME, as agonizing as it is, if someone is impatient and looking for immediate results you're not going to get them, be patient.
And, yes, it depends on the specific situation you're in and the individual personalities involved. You also should get a good recommendation of a counselor from a trusted resource, don't just randomly pick one out of the phone book.

It can help if you both are willing to be honest and open. By open I mean willing to listen to the others viewpoints with getting defensive, and by honest I mean say what is really on your mind. A good counselor will lay down these communication rules for you to help keep things in control and productive. If either one of you is resistant and refuses to abide by the communication guidelines, it is very hard for the counseling to make much difference.

Couples counseling definitely helps if both parties want to work on their relationship.

I tried to go to counseling, but my husband refused to go. He doesn't think that there is anything wrong. So, I went by myself. She was able to shed some light on a few things. But, it's not going to work unless both of you are willing to work at it.
Good Luck!

Well, you probably don't want to hear this but, my husband and I went to counseling. It didn't help, we argued in the doctors office. Obviously it helps some people, I think it depends on how extreme your problems are.

YES!!! If it wasn't for marriage counseling, my marriage would be over!!! Both partners have to be willing, open, and honest, and most importantly...go into it with an open and positive mind!!!

Yes and it saved my marriage. Also, we did the "His Needs, Her Needs" workbook that the first poster mentioned and it helped also. Hope it works out for you :-)
