Prefer something nice and quiet, good for meeting friends to actually talk in...no fights...no loud music...though a soft jazz club would be good.

The Words "pub" and "soft jazz" don't mix.
There are tons of great pubs in Ottawa, I guess it all depends on where you are staying.

The Mayflower is nice and quiet; quite fight-free...

No jazz, though.

But you might find something musical but on the quiet side at Pub Italia, which has a massive beer selection, great food, and isn't loud at all. Nice decor, too.
