In order to get a fraction into decimal form you have to divide the denominator or bottom number into the numerator. Thus, we're looking for the answer to 5 divided by 11. This is .45454545... It can also be written as .45 with a bar over the 4 and 5 to show that the pattern repeats infinitely.

I used to see a way to write the full answer in just 2 digits.
.45 but you need to put a little dot on top of the 4 and on top of the 5. That means it repeats the same sequence from the numbers between the overhead dots. I haven't seen anyone do that lately, but it seems like a good way to do it, shorter, briefer, easier to read.
the 0 in front is useful though, to avoid people not seeing your deciminal point: 0.45 That's the only reason you'd have a 0 out front. Make your decimal point big enough, you shouldn't need a 0. People must be getting worse in their eyesight.
Or you can do the repetitions 3 times, followed by three dots, as in: .454545...
I like the overhead dots, but my keyboard doesn't seem to have them.
Maybe someday they'll have underneath dots, if they come up with a need for them.

The secret is in your question. You asked for 5/11 as a decimal. You could have simply said what is 5 over 11, which gives you the easiest way to answer your own question. This will work for any fraction. Provided you have a calculator handy!

You can choose the accuracy and decide where to truncate after the decimal point.
5/11=0.4545454545454545 and so on, or
5/11=0.4545
and with decreasing accuracy
5/11=0.454, or
5/11=0.45

2 bob (2/-) became 10p
half a crown was 2/6d or 12.5p
ten bob (10/-) is 50p
a tanner was sixpence, or 2 1/2d
