Side note: My daughter’s name is Larissa.

I think you might be looking at being happy and peaceful in the wrong way. One of my favorite sayings is “Happiness is not a destination, but a method of travel.” If you’re not sure what that means, it’s basically this: you cannot expect to eventually “find” happiness because of something you’re expecting to happen, i.e. “Once I get that job, graduate school, get married, have kids, etc., THEN I will be happy.” You have to make yourself happy by enjoying what is happening RIGHT NOW in your life. The same is true for being peaceful.

I know it’s hard sometimes because life throws stuff at you that is difficult to handle, but you really have to learn to “not sweat the small stuff.”

Going to Church might also help. I know of several people who had good money, nice house, nice cars – yet they still felt empty. Once they found Jesus they were filled up with joy and they can’t believe they ever thought they could live without him. Personally, I don’t have all of the nice things (I have some…:-)) and I’m happier than I was before I found God.

Good luck.

Not enough xanax?
There is something called the serenity prayer, read it carefully perhaps it will help.
Personnally, I agree with Shoppenhuor, life is a struggle and majority of your time is spent in the struggle. Occasionally you can carve out a little peaceful place to relax and enjoy, then the struggle will intrude once more.
Another apt analogy is Camus's Sisiphys, he pushes the rock up the hill and it rolls down the other side, then he goes to get it and pushes it back up the hill, forever. Camus claims Sisiphys is the happiest man that ever existed the moment he feels that rock starting to roll down the other side, his mission is complete and he knows he can obtain a few moments of peace and happiness before he has to start pushing the rock again.

Maybe your are trying to find them in the wrong places. To be happy and peaceful you must in content with what you have or what you are. Buddha says that the cause of unhappiness is our own cravings. If you learn to control your desires you can certainly be happy and peaceful.

1. Because your body is a TOMB!
Every day,you put sentient, peaceful animals in it,with added spices, and think you are a civilised person! The screaming animals are very angry against you and are constantly destroying your inner peace!Be veg!
2. You put alcool in your body-or worser drugs! And they destroy your peace...
3. You are constantly running after money,to acheive your lust:such endeavour requires a lot of efforts! No peace...
4. Your sex life is CHAOS!Daily changing partner! You probably got Aids!
No peace!

Try to stop these activities and you'll get real peace .....for ever!

try to tell yourself to be happy and peaceful.......i have gone through a lot of things that could make me extremely depressed or unhappy.......but i told myself ....no way......i will be happy for myself.....i will not live in misery......now i don't know if this will work for everyone but it has worked for me for the last 30 years, because i don't really want to talk to anyone about my problems......i do pray and find peace in doing so.....you also have to tell yourself to be contend (because naturally most of us are hardly ever contend),i think that will give you peace......

The Lord says that we should all hate this life, but trust in him. Why would one love this state of life if they have another that so much more glorious? Life is a test of God, to see if your love can overcome this world to believe in him. Keep him as your sheperd and make the best of this test.

This question is way too general to answer in any meaningful and significant way. If you are suffering from stress, anxiety, or depression, however, then maybe the best thing you can do is to see your doctor!

it is your attitude.
You ask " Why CANT I be happy " and you place an impassable barrier before yourself with your choice of the word CANT ?????
Try asking " How can I be happy and peaceful ?"
Can is the key word
