I was thinking about whether you learn or forget more in a day and realised that it is probably impossible to actually measure the things that you forget. Can anyone think of a way to do this?

to measure what you have forgotten implies that you have to remember them again and therefore have not forgotten them

I read in a newspaper a few weeks ago that there is much more memory in the human brain than an average modern computer. That is quite incredible when you think about it! Basically, that means that you can measure the things that you can remember and forget. To do this, you would have to wake up and write every little detail of what you see, experience including smell taste and everything else until you go to bed! This is not quite the answer to your question but you have probably found it useful to know that the best computer in the world is not as advanced as your brain.

No, you cannot 'measure the things you have forgotten,' but beware, you might trip over the tape measure you tried to measure them with - the one you dropped in your haste to forget it all, and left lying around.

The amount of information your brain retains in memory is dwarfed by the amount of information that it is exposed to. Remember that you have five senses that are constantly feeding information to your brain throughout the day which has to be processed to see if it might be useful. Realistically I can't see any way to measure that.
