Start in New York City (great for everything), Travel down the Jersey Coast to Atlantic City (great for gambling), 10 miles down the road is Ocean City (great for families), A short drive from there is Washington DC (the museums and monuments are great for education)

If I were traveling from a foreign country and had only one weekend to spend in the United States, I'd go to San Francisco. Ride the cable car, visit Golden Gate Park, Chinatown and Fishermen's Wharf, browse through City Lights Books where beatniks past and present hang.

There are many many places to visit, but it depends on your finances, and your interests. I think Chicgo was great, St. Louis, and Nahsville. A weekend could be spent at one of the many NASCAR tracks. You could go to Kentucky and visit the Kentucky Horse farm where they retire race horses. A weekend in New York would be nice, take in a show. It is endless what you could do.
