Bush wants to win, and there's a theory the middle east will erupt in a regional war when the US troops are withdrawn. Bush may be deciding on a new 2 year plan for victory. The American Enterprise Institute, a think tank of conservative scholars, is whipping up a report for a January rollout, and Bush may bite.

1. Bush cannot admit he was wrong and used his elected office for a personal vendetta. (see "He tried to a**asinate my dad")
2. Oil, $$$, its all the same.
3. As for our valiant soldiers who are over there doing their jobs, I think perhaps they do not wish to negate the sacrifice that their fellow soldiers have made.
Plus they serve this country and the office, not the man, of Commander in Chief. They do their duty even if they do not agree with the decisions.
4. EGO. The US not win a fight?! We would look like fools! (as some in Washington no doubt think)

If we left , radical Islamics would slaughter those Iraqi's which support the overthrow of Saddam and assist the coalition troops...The radicals would claim our departure as a victory and Americans would become targets all over the world..

the "real reason" we're in Iraq is because Hussein was in violation of several UN edicts, that is why we went in in the first place. as to why we're still there now, do you believe that if the reason for war turns out to be in error that the former status quo should be returned? should Saddam be returned to power in Iraq? is that really your position?
