Hi There!
I also had a Gateway PC. And I was very happy with it. Also, had a great E machine..had a couple self builts, I don't recommend doing that anymore. But in September, (a gift from my Husband for my birthday) I built my own PC from Dell and moved up to Windows XP. I am totally happy with the Dell!
And their online customer service.
Take care! :)

For a desktop I have a clone PC with the latest parts(cheaper if you assemble yourself and you get the top of the line processors, Linksys wireless LAN... etc.). For my laptop, its gotta be my MacBook from Apple. I love Apple! It now has a dual core Pentium 4 processor which I can dual boot with Windows OS. Apple computers are gotta be the best that ever happened to computers. You get the best of both worlds. The usability of Windows and the virus free environment of MacOSX.

I used to love Gateways, then HP/Compaq - now I'm a Dell fan. But I think they all go in spurts of being good/bad.
