It all revolves around passability. If you are passable, then you have no problems. If you do not, then you have a world of problems.

If you listen to a group of transgendered people talk, invariably it will be about passability and how to achieve it.

It is sad that our society revolves so much around looks and bigotry, but I have to admit, when you see a guy who looks like Grizzly Adams trying to look like Brittany Spears...well...its quite shocking.

For a lot of us, YES! For MTFs, straight guys don't want to date a chick with a dick. Gay guys only end in short-term relationships because after the operation they're not interested in dating a woman. For straight women they don't want to be in a lesbian relationship. For lesbian women it's too straight for them. That's just the MTF side too. I didn't even get into FTMs, crossdressers, and genderqueer people...

Some pass quite well. I've seen some that I didn't realize were until told about it. They could date as they chose. This is where success is measured, a man being seen as the woman he thinks he should be or a woman being seen as the man she thinks she should be. Failure is being seen by all as a freak or portraying themselves in some middle ground.
