I filed for divorce 10 years ago in Sacramento and have been seperated from my husband since that time how do I find out if I am divorced? Both my EX and I live in San Diego now how fast can we get divorced? Is it faster in Neveda?

If you never went to court it never happened.

Call the county in which you filed and check the status of your case.

Go to the court house and ask the Clerk of Court to look it up. You can also look it up under a Family Court Case on the Court of Sacramento County website (linked below.)

If it is an uncontested divorce it should be quick either state because you have been seperated for 10 years.

Most states have residency laws so it may be quicker to get divorced in California rather than Nevada. (linked below)

I suggest you hire an attorney this time to make sure it is completed correctly. Good Luck!

If you filed and did not put in a court appearance, you probably are not divorced. Filing means you submitted paperwork to be put on the court docket. Without an appearance, the case was dropped.
Nevada is the MARRIAGE capital of the world, not divorce. Residency must be established to divorce in Nevada. As with most things, marriage is easier to get into than out of.
If you can get your ex to agree to sign papers and then follow through with the hearing, it can be done pretty quickly. You certainly have passed the usual 2 year limit for people who do not know where to serve a spouse. If that is the case, you can do it by publication in legal journals.
Your most efficient and least costly route is to hire an attorney. Try to agree on a flat fee or try a women's legal clinic that does pro bono work. Good luck. Get yourself free. You are responsible for his debts and signature until you are legally divorced.

When you filed for divorce did you get a court hearing? Did you serve him with the court order? If not, then your divorce is not finalized. Usually, when you file for divorce, you receive a court date and the second party involved has to be serviced the same paper work ( a copy of yours). You can check by simply having the case number at hand and write a letter of requisition, or try and call and tell them the case number and they can tell you if it is final..

You should have gotten paperwork back from the court saying that you are officially divorced. You can call the court that you filed with and find out for sure. Nevada is easy to get married, but not so easy for getting divorced.

Well here in Texas when you file for divorce your spouse has 20 days to answer the request. If they don't answer you automatically get a default divorce in 60 days. Hope that helps

I believe that you have to go to court to finalize the divorce,
If you went through an attorney when you filed, by all means
call him/her and check it out.
Curious to know why it has taken you this long......
Happy Holidays!!

Call the court house where you filed your divorce papers at. It's public record. Good luck and i hope it turns out like you want it to.

I would call the court house but it is usually not final until you see a judge.
