My car died driving down the road, and would not start. The person who owned the car before said it was the fuel filter. (it happened before). We changed it but when we tried to start it, the starter went out. (It is the starter not the battery, that we know) What does this mean? Coincidence?
My car is a '98 Bonnevill.

IT means you need to put a new starter on and it should run after that.

You can take a hammer or a big wrench and tap on it, when someone else is trying to crank it. It might be stuck, if that doesnt work, then it is time to change it. I have also bought starters from the parts house and they are bad also, just how they are made, but they should replace it. Make sure the are no motor oil getting on the starter, that will destroy them alot faster.

Probably a result of hard starting with the bad filter. Long use of the starter will cause it to overheat and fail sooner than normal. Starter motors are designed for short intermittant use and will not last long grinding away on a hard starting engine.

either you have a bad connection on the wire that goes to the starter or you need a new starter go to a salvage yard and get one change it if you have someone that can do it but if you have to take it to a garage then just buy a new one but if it doesnt click when you try to start it then its probably just a bad connection

How do you know it's the starter ?? You sure it's not the solenoid or a bad connection ?? It died before ?? I would be checking the fuel pump.
