1. A job that you always love to do. Deep in your heart, it's not only a job, but your hobby and dream of life style. However, this job can't barely offer you enough to make a living. Financially, it's a no-future job. (eg. Photographer, artist, traveller....)
2. A job that you don't enjoy at all but it pays well with good benefits. It's a boring job and you can't seem to have fun working. However, this job offers you stable financial support and a rather steady life that you can pursue your other hobby or life goals outside your job. (eg. a normal routine day-to-day office work.)
Which one will you choose? And why?

I did #1 for 10 years and you know what I found out? I turned something I "Love" into "Work", I was no longer doing it because I enjoyed it, and eventually began to resent it!
"Work Hard/Play Hard" but don't try to mix the two! That's my advice!

#1. Because I'm already doing it. I've had other jobs like #2 but I didn't keep them. It's not about the money. It's about being happy in your life. With a little luck & a lot of hard work my current job / hobby will grow into a good money maker too. It isn't a no future dead end job it just doesn't pay that well yet. Still...I'm working for myself and not for someone else. That in itself is a huge plus. How else could I get the time to log in here and answer questions? :o)

I've been in #2 position many a time and can tell you that its awful to not be doing something you love even if it pays a lot. On the other hand, I hate giving up the salary. So best bet - get a #2 type job that is okay (in other words it's not going to suck your soul out of you) AND allows you freedom to pursue #1 stuff as hobby or part time job.

Of course I'd take the job that pays well and has good benefits. I think most of us would say we work in a job that's boring and we don't necessarily enjoy, but the bills have to be paid. We can still pursue our hobbies in our free time to relieve stress.

Job #1, trust me no matter how much they pay you if you don't like you are not going to last. But it depend how much they paid you thought. If is $100,000 at year I will keep it to three years and then leave to pursue the Job#1.

The second one because then I can have money to do what I like.
Artist have to buy paints, canvas, lessons, etc
Photographer wants the latest greatest camera
Traveler wants to ride or fly
all of that costs money.
Then you might want to get married someday.

job number 2. Then look for a job that is better suited to you likes and personality. Neither one seems to give you a bright outlook for the future.

I'd pick number 2, and I'd make sure to make time for my friends, family and hobbies.
