When numbers are express with only one significant digit they might in fact have a greater or smaller value. In this case if the 2 is in fact something like 2.4999999... it would be express as 2 in integer form, but if it is added to itself it would equal 5.

but 2+2 could also equal 5 if you had the right units attached to the numbers...

2 (1.5 Gallon container) + 2 (1 Gallon container) = 5 gallons

yes, if the number was orininally a decimal, then rounded to the nearest whole number down, then yes it could be five.

2.49+2.49=4.98
2 +2 =5
