When numbers are express with only one significant digit they might in fact have a greater or smaller value. In this case if the 2 is in fact something like 2.4999999... it would be express as 2 in integer form, but if it is added to itself it would equal 5.

but 2+2 could also equal 5 if you had the right units attached to the numbers...
