you probably pay her a lot of attnetion when she does it and she knows if she does it she will get your attention again. my son will smack himself when hes REALLLLY tired. i mean smack hard as hell. Im always afraid of him getting a black eye. it could also be that she's sleepy and her movements arnt very controlled at that point so she waves her arm around, it goes floppy and boom! She jus smacked herslef. Grab her hand and let her wrap er fingers around one of yours oto distracted her from it, smile at her and be loving. its just a thing babies do.

Lots of babies hit themselves in the head, or pat their face, or even rock back and forth in their cribs and bang their heads against the slats or the wall. It is somehow soothing to them, the repetitiveness. I'm not sure why. If she seems to be hurting herself or leaving marks, ask your dr.

Sounds like she is learning about moving her arms, and her head got in the way! As she gets more coordinated, she won't hit herself so often...

Some babies do it as a comfort thing believeit or not, it depends how old the baby is if it is older than 6 months it is probably for attention.

My baby prefers to nurse on my left breast. If I put her on the right one, she does some crazy stuff. bites it, spits it out, you name it. Hitting herself ..........not when feeding, but she does it accidentally when she is just laying there or when I am holding her. Babies are such a trip aren't they?

Sometimes they do things that look painful to us but gives them pleasure. My daughter bobs her head violently when listening to music or watching TV. She likes it and it soothing to her.
