Great place, no safety concerns other than the same you may have in the USA. You should tell a bit more about what you want to do see: Big cities? Party beaches? Isolated beaches? Diving? Fishing? etc ...
This place has everything. It is so much nicer than the USA, I decided to stay here long term.

While in Manila stay in Makati where they have the Shangrila Plaza which is very near the shopping district . Visit Davao, Cebu, Bohol and Boracay where the best Beaches are. In the North visit historical Vigan in Ilocos Sur and Baguio which is the summer capital of the Philippines. But they say that the best place to visit is Palawan.

I can recommend that you stay overnight in Manila upon arrival then the following day, you fly either boracay or bohol. Its a best time during those months to stay in whitesand beach because its summertime. But if you have budget, i am recommending also Palawan. The cost of the boracay or bohol package for 2nts/3 days is around P10,000 - 18,000 per person depends on the resort. The inclusion of the package are room accommodation, roundtrip airfare, roundtrip airport transfer (boracay side), breakfast. If in Palawan around P20,000 - P30,000 either El Nido resorts or Club Noah. same inclusions but the meals are buffet fullboard already and the activities are included also.

If both of you like beaches, you should try to come and visit Cebu. Check Bantayan. There are 2 options to reach there from Cebu. You could take a bus trip or a boat trip. Breathtaking but not as commercial as Boracay. I would suggest checking Cebu Pacific or other local airlines, or if you knew of some travel agencies for guided tours. You could also visit the neighboring island of Bohol. Good choice also.

you should go to Baguio in Luzon, when you go here, IMMEDIATELY buy a philippine map and find baguio, once you found it, go to that place. if you went there, its very cold! i mean im talking about 20 aircons in every corner if your room cold. i suggest bring 5 or 3 blankets to cover you up. there is also another beautiful spot here, its a mall. its called SM Mall Of Asia. we just went there last saturday.(i live in the philippines, not an american) we watched there "The Amazing World of Dolphins" and it was nice! did you know dolphins can jump up to 30 feet? so plan on what you will bring, what you will do and what you will eat(sorry about that) we have assorted fruits like apples, mango, banana and lots more. there are also swimming pool resorts like Club Manila East, Splash Mountain, Splash Island, Oasis, Cuyab and more (those are the only resorts i went) but i know one resort, its called Bintan Lagoon Resort and Bintan Resorts
