Bye is the shortened form of Good Bye.The exact meaning of Good bye is It comes from "God be with you." It has been suggested that it originated from "Good buy [redeem] you".

They mean the same thing. Say whichever flows out of your mouth the easiest. I tend to say bye bye on the phone, but bye in person. I don't know why.

When you say bye you are expecting to see the person again sometime soon. When you say good-bye you know it will be a long time before you see them again, or you know you will never see them again.

we say "bye" when we hope to see the the other person again i.e.our relations, meetings,talks and chats will resume.we say "goodbye" only then when it is the last meeting with that person,never again is any chance of meeting or talking or seeing each other.
