I asked a question with a joke in it and they were being all literal and they were like "that's not very funny."

I agree with you.I love Americans but my problem with them is that they are always complaining or holding someone responsible for some people's mistakes.It seems there's always a new excuse to hear from them.If a student is not doing well in school,maybe she is stressed out but if another person of different race doesn't do well she isn't from an intelligent race.If a football team doesn't perform well,it is the fault of coach but if the team wins the quarterback gets the praises.if Americans do not pick after themselves,future American leaders are going to be looking out for people to pick after them forever.This ideology has made lots of brilliant and good young men and women gone wasted because they never learned to be on their own.

I don't think we're boring. We're just as complex (not boring) as anyone else in this world. Just maybe your joke really wasn't all that funny to them. That doesn't mean they are serious; they just didn't like that particular joke.
