Do you see any point to a powder (mineral) "primer"?

I always thought makeup primers were supposed to be gel or cream-based, but recently bought some mineral makeup where they were selling a powder primer to apply before the makeup. Does that make any sense to you? I can see how a powder primer would absorb a little more oil underneath the minerals, but let's be real -- a primer is supposed to:

a) prep the skin for makeup
b) keep makeup from sinking into pores throughout the day / keep it from fading

How in the world is a "primer" in powder form supposed to do those things? The idea of a powder primer is nice in theory, as it would be less likely to clog pores (I have acne-prone skin), but doesn't seem realistic/effective. Anyway, I'm not looking for product recommendations (though if you have a rave-worthy product, feel free to share!), I'm mostly just curious what people think of this.

What do you think?

No.

Of course, you have to try 'everything out'. I have tried the regular 'primer'....it didn't seems to do a thing. In fact, I felt like the foundation was slipping off of it. I didn't see any difference in product fade or oil/shine control when I used the primer.

But, I do like the oil control primer from Premium Minerals. It does really seem to keep the 'grease slick' at bay. The rest of the makeup seems to stay truer when I use this product.

I also like the sunscreen mineral from Premium Minerals for the same reason. This one one I use after the veil, I don't know if that is the right order. For touch ups, it's transparent so you don't get that over powdered look. This too controls the oily shine and keep the product fresh.

I personally have very oily skin at almost 50. I love using the Two Faced Primed and Poreless pressed poweder as my primer and also my setting poweder. I start by moisterizing first, then lightly dusting my face, avoiding my eye area, and then applying a liquid makeup on top (I use Tart's 12 hr Amazonian Clay makeup), and then dusting my T-zone. It lasts me through a long workday! I think it would also work fine under a mineral powder, as it is so fine that it just really preps the skin and doesn't feel like a layer at all, and it would help minerals go on smoother without grabbing in certain areas. Just my thoughts with my skintype!

I use Arbonne's Personalizer...before i put on my mineral powder foundation. It's in a compact/powder form and has a green tint to it. It helps absorb oil and get rid of redness, thats the only reason i use it.
Not sure if that's a primer...but maybe.
