There is an old legend that the measure of King Henry I's arm was a yard - the distance between his nose and his thumb. Legend only! However, the length of King Henry V's arms spread wider than a dragon's wings according to Shakespeare.

The arm of King Henry I of England (1100-1135) was certainly not 36 inches long, but at one point in his reign, the length of his arm was taken as a standard "yard" to measure cloth.
