... also are vegetarians?
Are minks, sables, foxes, lambs, etc. more important in the scheme of things than cattle, fish, fowl and pigs... and now, bison?
Isn't it a bit inconsistent to object so much to wearing fur, and then to eat living creatures, and then, lol, wear leather shoes, and carry handbags and wallets, etc. ?
I wonder how many people who object to the use of fur for clothing could actually afford it, or is it just a question of "sour grapes"?

You see, it strikes me as strange that people who disapprove of fur coats should then turn around and eat hamburgers and steaks, lamb roasts, etc. It just strikes me as inconsistent.

I cannot stand the fur industry. But fake fur is also not the best thing for the environment.
Leather is a by-product, it's not quite the same as fur, and in my experience those who dislike fur for ethical reasons also dislike leather.
Your question doesn't make sense however. I do find that those who disapprove of fur are vegetarians simply because they care more about animals. Therefore, to them, it isn't inconsisent to object to fur and eat meat, as they don't..

It's almost like non smokers who make noises around smokers, then get into a car with lousy exhaust to pollute our air. Vegetables are living things also, so the vegetarians are eating live things. I am against mink, sable and fox fur coats for the simple fact that the pelt is the only part used. Leather is used and so is beef, the same goes for lambs wool and the lamb chops that taste good. I think some of what you are saying is sour grapes........but some think they are doing good. But, who really knows.

I think there are those out there who are very wrong in their condemning of others for their use of animals and animal products. I do not agree with refusing a hamburger and wearing leather. Nor do I agree with those who consider themselves vegetarians, but eat fish. There are those of us out there who believe a certain way, and then follow through with what we belief.
I do not find any life more valuable than another based on species. I do not wear fur. I do not eat meat. I do not wear leather. I do not use products tested on animals.
Honestly, I it would be easier for me to bash a man (or woman) over the head, fillet him, cook him, and sit down to a nice meal than it would be for me to go (in good conscience) to McDonald's and order a double cheeseburger.
And for the record, if not completely disgusted by the idea, I could easily afford a fur coat.

I have a friend who's a vegetarian and owns a fur coat (she inherited it from her grandmother). I used to think she was hanging her head in shame until I realized that her neck muscles were just too weak from a lack of protein. Seriously, though, I do think it's kind of hypocritical for people to be vegetarians and then wear leather coats and shoes. That's why I'm a carnivore.

The wise shopper knows that you can get tons of designer items at resale or consignment stores, so not being able to afford fur is no excuse.
Ok, I got off topic.
I doubt it's sour grapes - for the most part. It might be icing on their soy cakes, though.
Personally, I've never found a fur coat that looks good on me. Fur trim is ok, but I'm too short, too ..... um ..... voluptuous shall we say, and my hair is not big enough. I look like a pinhead in a fur coat.

I'm here to shake up your answer section. I own REAL fur - have since I was a child. IT IS WARM. I don't own it because it is pretty or I am vain or any other reason - IT IS WARM and where I live is really f-ing cold. I love animals - but God put them on this earth to serve us. I disapprove of maltreatment of animals, but I eat meat, wear leather, wear fur, and won't change no matter what anyone says. But I swear if I hear about a farm that is abusing animals or treating them poorly for profit I'll stand next to you and hold a picket sign.
There is a difference between humanely raising animals for harvest or gain and eliminating their quality of life to increase profits. I was raised in farm country and befriended animals of all kinds, but the animals were raised in a friendly environments with certain freedoms that many corporate farmers don't allow animals today. THAT makes me sick.

My dad is a butcher and meat cutter.
You do realize that animals are specifically killed for their fur because we don't eat their flesh? That's why people protest against it.
However, the leather handbags and shoes are actually skins left over from the butchering process. Butchers can sell those skins for alot of money.
Think about that the next time you try to make false claims.

Good question and you make very valid points. You should go to youtube and do a search for "PETA Penn & Teller Bullsh*t" and watch it. PETA freaks protesting cruelty to animals, yet wear leather belts and get injected with insulin made from animal products. Also, many of them can't afford a decent fur garment, but that is not the basis of their idiotic beliefs. They are simply psychotic...plain and simple. it's one thing to be a vegetarian, but god help them if they vandalize my leather jacket or my wife's sable coat with spraypaint. They will be drinking the paint and walking home with an aerosol can shoved up their rectums if they do.
I'm a proud member of the other PETA...PEOPLE EATING TASTY ANIMALS.
Now pass me a bbq rib..will ya

I don't approve of animals being raised or slaghtered just for their fur. that is vanity
but I have no problem with wearing the skins etc of food animals
such as lambs, buffalo, deer I think that no part of them should go to waste.
I wonder if these fur zelots will someday demand we rewrite the bible
removing the parts about animals they don't approve of.
like how sacrifices were made et cetera.

I find that I have the need to eat but can do without fur nicely.
I am more concerned about the news story about the US Corps that are importing clothes from China that are supposed to have phoney fur. They are actually raising dogs and cats in very inhumane conditions, brutally killing them, and using their fur and telling us it isn't real.
These corporations with no morals are going to kill us all.
