I just know I'm going to get presents that I don't want for Christmas from my family...how is it that people that claim to "know you" so well...give you some of the most god awful presents?

(I'm not being ungrateful you understand...I know what the spirit of Chrismtas is, etc.)

Oh Hell yeah - cluelessness runs SCREAMING through my family...unfortunately, as it looks unlikely that I'm gonna reproduce, it kind of all wells up at the end of the line...in me.

More socks than I can possibly wear are likely to be heading my way this Christmas, but then I'm utterly dreadful at present-buying - can't even remember what I got my wife last year, though I'm pretty sure it was desperate and bizarre.

Y'know, like it is this year...

Oh God...think I'm gonna go crawl under a rock and bask in my cleulessness...

Back when I still gave presents, I would try to get something that I knew the person needed or would like. That didn't always work either, because my tastes are quite different than most of my family.
So I have asked them to stop giving presents. If I need something, I will buy what I like and not what could be forced on me. It would only sit in the cupboard year after year.
I don't consider that being ungrateful but just practical.

I have everything I need so why would I want more things that I don't really need.

Dragon thinks that being clueless could run in a family. She has gotten some god awful presents from peeple who claim to know her. Berry sad it is.

YEA. Don't you also hate it when they ask you what you want and you give them hits, but they go buy something that is lame. Most of the time they spend so much more then they need too, when they could have just bought you what you wanted and saved some money. I love little things for Christmas, you know the kind of things you won't buy yourself.

I know how you feel. I get some stupid a ornament from the $1 store every year and usually lots of other really stupid things that end up going to GoodWill.

I think i know exactly what you mean...

For my 19th birthday, i wanted a horseshoe necklace. I know they're ugly. I know they aren't exactly wonderful or anything like that. But I like them. I think they're fabulous. My husband was going to get it and then he gets me (albeit, extremely beautiful) necklace with all kinds of semi-precious stones.

Look, i'm appreciative and all that other good stuff.

But seriously, why do people feel the need to ignore what you want and get what THEY think you'll like better?

Ughhhh....

It does on my mom's side of the family....or maybe it's just my mom. I don't get it either.....I mean, she asks me to make a list every year, and even still.....

I SO understand!
