look on the water heater. it should have some stickers and some indication of its product number, model number, where it was manufactured, etc. call the manufacturer and try to find out that way. ask a home inspector how they do it, because every time they inspect a house, they are able to access that kind of information, and even they can find out if the water heater is still under warranty.

I usually can tell if a water heater is old by the rust along the bottom of the main canister that goes into the pan area.
I don't think they are dated like toilets but you might call someone at a home supply store like Ace Harware I bet they could tell you.

Serial Number. Usally 1st numbers are month 2nd is year. Forinstance GG0598.
That Means May of 1998

Mine had a small metal plate on the back that was stamped with the date of manufacture. Yours might have one too.

bob is correct.. sometimes it might be 2nd or 3rd before it makes since but they are usually zeros leading in those cases.. it still comes out to bobs example.. bob gets my thumbs up
