Why dont you read a bit about evolution and think how likely it is that they exist. This would be a reasonable question to ask in the 1700's - in the 21st century you reveal a frightening level of ignorance. Besides you asked it in mythology - look up myth in a dictionary.
If they were real you could have gone in to 'zoology' to talk about them, couldnt you?

Of course they are real. They are called Sirens which means mermaids, they are of the seals and dolphins family. They have the breast of mammalian and a fish-like tail.

I don't but I would love to. They have this aura of mystery and a knowledge of what may lie in the depths of the ocean that makes the ocean even more mysterious.

yes while i was vivsting my home country italy when i was ten i saw something that can only be explained as a women who was swimming far out in the ocean i was on a boat at the time then it seemed to dissapear all i saw was a tail like a fish behind.,so who knows

Yes me and my husband went fishing of the coast of cape cod last year and we caught one but dont worry we are totally catch and release.
