they believe that because that is what they are taught. if they havent seen another country they cannot not technially compare our country to anothers, but from merely watching television, listening to the radio and reading newspapaers, those who have never left the country will get a sense that no where else is worth visiting, because well lets be honest our media will hype up our "greatness" before another place. They really can only appreciate the so called "greatness" of this country if they can have a comparision, until then you're right they really can't claim America as the best country, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Sorry to say buddy I have lived in four different countries and vacation all over the world even though there are a lot of great countries and there are policies and certain things I would love to see copied here....... In it's totality I am always happy to get back to the United States because the pluses overwhelmingly overpower the minus too many Americans take this country for granted. I will bet you one thing if all the nations of the world got together and told their citizens the could immigrate to any country of their choosing America would sink into the sea from the numbers, if you don't believe it just take a look at just one country.......... Mexico.

Why not? Aren't they just as entitled to freedom of speech as you are?
And where would you go? I have traveled a bit - been to 7 foreign countries and the only one I would even consider moving to is England. Not because of any language barriers, but because I liked the people. That being said, I *do* believe America is the best country on earth. We're far from perfect, but we're a hell of a lot better than some countries.
Wow - bettysdad knows all the conservatives in the entire country! Hope you don't have to send them all Christmas cards. Oops - I mean, Merry RamaHanuKwanzMas cards.

Probably just about as much as any other person. Anyone who actually was able to visit every nation on earth would have an insignificant understanding of each nation. I remember in various history classes when we would talk about a foreign nation, and someone who had visited there for 2 weeks spoke as if they knew that nation's heart and soul. I've lived in the U.S. for my entire life, and I don't know anywhere near all there is to know about it, and haven't experienced anywhere near all there is to experience. So any judgment about a "greatest country" will be based on incomplete information.
Thinking the U.S. is the greatest nation without ever leaving it is just regular old nationalism at work. Considering its biological basis, and its continuing prominent position in civlization, nationalism isn't going to go away.
It's probably less credible for someone who has lived in the U.S. for 20 years, and studied abroad for 5 months, to claim that the U.S. sucks, or that the nation they visited is better. Living in a nation for an extremely long period, you are likely to experience much more of its worst aspects than if you are there for only a few months.

I have been around a few countries. And I believe, the Americans are the greatest.
Unfortunately, this country has been hijacked by the Israelis and their cronies; this tight grip is affecting US, the American citizens, and the rest of the world in a severely negative way.
In general, the premise of your question is right, but not for America. It just so happens, that for the last few years, the Americans should not be thinking that way because of the Israeli grip on America.

Well, they can, but a person who has traveled is in a better position to judge.
I have been in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North Africa and South-West Asia. The people are the same in every country I have been in. Americans are no better than anyone else. We do, however, have an advantage over all the other countries I have been in.
Our nation is different from every other nation, in that our Founders recognized that we were endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights. This means that our rights come from God, and no legitimate government can take them away.
We have allowed criminal politicians to trample on some of our rights, but they are still God-given and unalienable. We just need to wake up the American people to that fact.

Absolutely Not. I know so many people that have not seen the world around them at all, and yet say that America is the greatest country. Now I have travelled to many places around the world including Europe and Asia, and many other places have their advantages and also their disadvantages. People have to choose what is the best for them, and not be so close minded......

No, but it's a natural human thing for people to think that what they have is the best.
I don't think that simply visiting another country would be enough to base that judgment on either. Maybe if you lived in a country and participated in it ecomonically and politically for 5 or 10 years you could make a valid comparison.

America is definitely a great country, but there are many other great countries too. I, personally, don't think that America is as good as my country (Canada), but I definitely holiday in the US because of your great tourist spots. I am always glad to get back to Vancouver, though. The air even feels different.
People in other countries, like Canada, are not always boasting about how great their country is, mainly because we know it's an irritating trait but also because we know we don't have to. We know, deep-down, of Canada's superiority in a LOT of ways. I wouldn't trade Canada for the US. Just one man's opinion.

Unless you have lived somewhere else you have no idea of what you are talking about. You can't say vanilla is the greatest ice cream flavour if that is the only flavour you have tasted. I have lived in other countries and America is definately not one of the best. It's only good for the ones who have everything. America closes it's eyes to the millions of problems they have in their own backyard.
