yes but my real beef is the over taxing of smokers simply because they are a minority

You do not have to look at them if you don't want to. But let's just pretend that I'm a drinker of alcoholic beverages that is an athsmatic, of which I'm neither. Should I HAVE TO be subjected to going to an establishment where I endanger my lungs while I cause possible irreparable damage to my brain and liver. Also, I live in Colorado, where the clean air act was enacted recently which states that it is okay to smoke outside as long as it is at least 15 feet away from the entrance of a building. Don't you think that I have a God-given right to walk into or out of a building without assaulting my lungs, by going through a cloud of smoke prior to entering, or upon exiting?

Smokers are the only people that think the bans are going too far. As a non smoker I love it. I have always hated cigarette smoke, and have lost some loved ones because of it so I can't agree with you on that. I do not want to be subjected to the smoke no matter where I am. The only reason it's not illegal is because the gov't taxes the hell out of them and they make a killing off em'(no pun intended).

I think cigarettes should not be used in any public places because they are offensive and the smoke causes health effects for the smoker and by standers. Smoke is very offensive when you are a non smoker and it travels very far so I think it should be banned in all public places. If people want to smoke in their home then it is their choice.
I agree about banning completly unhealthy food, such as trans fat, and foods that are actually killing people. America is the only country who allows these types of foods to be sold.
Unfortunately for our health companies market addictive and deadly products!

NO. I lived in Zurich for a year and a half, and you could barely breath after entering a restaurant or bar. Then you walked outside, and of course, people can SMOKE anything!! I prefer at least bars and restaurants to be either completely non-smoking, or very small confined smoking areas. But I do agree with you - if they are going to ban smoking - they should put bans on lots of other things as well!!

I agree - too far. In Marin County, they passed a law saying you cant drive a car with a kid in it and smoke - never mind the fact that, sitting in rush hour traffic, you are breathing more carbon monoxide than you would be sucking on a cigarette...
And, NY just passed a law outlawing trans fat in foods!! So, maybe you and I will get lucky and not have to be subjected to fat people any longer....
Just for fun, when someone points out that my smoking is a disgusting habit, I simply point at their guts and tell them that their fatness is bad for their health and appears disgusting to me as well...

They are going too far. I understand people not wanting to be exposed to secondary cigarette smoke, but there should be places - restaurants, night clubs - where people can still go and have a cigarette while having a drink.
How come they don't ban the booze?

I will have to agree with you on that. Even though I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, not being able to smoke outside is out of control. If you're not able to smoke outside, then where are you supposed to smoke?

It's revolting to wake up after a night in a bar with my room stinking of stale smoke, even though I've never smoked a cigarette in my life. I'll be glad when it is banned in bars, but outside is a bit extreme.

I think so. I'm not a smoker (I think it's disgusting), but you can't make something legal, wait till millions of people are doing it, then try to get rid of it just like that. I agree that you shouldn't smoke in a restaurant or hospitals and such ...no indoor place where there may be children, but you should be able to smoke outside and in bars and such!

I agree with you. Actually, some are trying to ban trans fats, like in NY. (one minute butter is bad for you, the next it's margarine...) Before you know it, smokers won't be able to smoke in the privacy of their own homes or on their own property. And I am tired of hearing people say things like, "Quit smoking because it's harmful to the environment." The environment is more important than human beings? I think not. Puleeeze!
