I think its either black or grey, and sometimes they rub them together and put them on the patients chest and somehow it revives them.My question is,what is that instrument called, and how does it make that person's heart start beating again?

The instrument you are on about is called an External heart DEFIBULATOR and it is used to treat people a dangerous arrhythmia and/or cardiac arrest. The heart natuarally has a defibulator which works by sending an electrical shock to the heart around 60 - 100 times a minute. This in turn contracts the muscles within the heart and makes it beat but when your inbuilt defib gives up the EHD is usually used to restart the heart by medical staff.

I hope this has helped.

They are called Defibrillators and they are used to send electricity (energy) through the heart in hopes to either shock the heart back into working or either to convert a dangerous heart rhythm into one that is less dangerous and easier to be manged. There are many types, some are for professional use ( the paddles), some are at malls for the lay persons use( AED) and other are implanted in pace makers. This site will tell you all about it

It is called an External Defibrillator. It delivers an electric shock to the heart through the chest wall. This shock helps restore the heart to a regular, healthy rhythm.

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses and treats cardiac arrest by re-establishing an effective heart rhythm. This treatment is called defibrillation, which applies an electric shock to the entire heart muscle, uniformly clearing the electrical activity of the heart, hopefully allowing it to resynchronize.

These are the paddles for the electric cardio stimulator that are a part of the "crash kit" found in the ER.

Basically it works by sending an electric shock across the heart to make it contract and (hopefully) jolt it into beating on its own again.

Its called a defibrillator. It shoots an electrical charge through the muscles of the heart to stimulate it into motion again. It is used when someones heart stops.

Ah, they already got it. It's calle a defibrillator, or a D-Fib, and it sents about 400 watt seconds of electricity into the patient to restart or reset the heart.

defibrillator...the electric current sends a shock to heart, hopefully giving it a kick start to beat again.
