There have been many good films that have had their long term reputation muddied by a string of rotty sequels. I think the worst offender is the Police Academy series. The first film is a classic but now all you think of is the whole 200 sequels and it's ruined the reputation of the first one.
Which other original movie should be forgiven for all the later and lame cash-ins?

Anything that was not intended to have a sequel (like all those Disney classics they've now decided to do sequels to 20 years after the fact)
The land before time. The first one was cool, the second one was alright.....but after that, they just kept getting hokier. They have like...9+ of them now. And that has caused the whole target age to sink down to a level far too close to Barney (I'd guess that most people on here have not even seen the first one)
Grease 2 was lame.
I liked the Santa Clause much better than Santa Clause 2 (though it wasn't horrible...it just wasn't great)
Shrek 2 was kinda....ehh.....but I don't think Grease, Santa and Shrek have been ruined by the sequels.
Star trek possibly has been tainted by far too many spin offs. I enjoyed watching the Old TV Land star trek, but none of the new ones even peaked my curiosity. There are still a lot of people out there though, that love all things star trek. (no, I personally, am not a Trekkie)

The ring 2 and the grudge 2, what a waste of money they were! Both so bad, its almost funny. Not quite though, so generally just very annoying.

dumb and dumberer, speed 2,the jaws series,halloween series,terminator 3(not bad but it was never going to match the first two),basic instinct 2 and the hitcher 2
