It could be the software. Try restoring it back to a previous date.

Could be many of things. Try running it in safe mode, by tapping F8 when your computer starts up. Once in safe mode run a virus scan, Adware and Spyware scan and see what comes up. If that doesn't help it may be something in your start up. If that's the case choose run off the start menu and type in msconfig. Goto the startup menu and unselect everything restart your computer and see if it freezes again, If it doesn't select like four programs to start and do the same process till you figure out which one it is.
