Not everyone thinks like this, but I can understand why you get this impression. They assume we're like our leaders. I didn't vote for the guy, but he got elected somehow and he's our representative.
I lived with a bunch of international students a few years ago, and after they got to know me they said, "You're nothing at all like we thought the average American was like." Some of them had the impression that we're all bumbling idiots because that's who's famous and who our elected officials are. If we (the whole nation) stop electing and idolizing idiots, that will solve the problem.
The best we can do is be good representatives when we meet English people in person and travel abroad in general.

listen, i was in the UK (Northern Ireland) for a long time. i went to school there. i wore their incredibly uncomfortable uniforms. i listened to their crap.
i got called 'a bloodthirsty warmongering American'. i can't agree about Bush being an animal, i think he's done a relatively good job, but that's not the point.
we have been represented by the Medea as fat, stupid, and unthoughtful. i don't know why. but the people in the UK (and everywhere else in Europe) have bought it. they actually believe that the 9-11 thing was all a plan by Bush to get more money. they Will buy anything. they hate us because they have gobbled up the nonsense he media has been feeding them....hope helped...

We took our kids to England this past summer and never heard a discouraging word or read anything anti American while we were there.
Don't ever take anyone's word for how other countries feel about American's in general. They know that it is the current administration that is causing the uproar, not the individuals who live here and strive to better understand all cultures by experienceing them firsthand.
Go, and have a wonderful time!!!

It wasn't until recently that I realized how much of the rest of the world hates us. The general consensus from the rest of the planet are that Americans are fat, lazy, greedy, selfish, arrogant, dumb slobs who stick their noses in where they don't belong. Just put in the search engine sometime "Americans are" and you'll see. I can kinda see where some are coming from but i may not be completely enlightend as of yet cause I don't really understand what most of the hate is about.

I spend quite a bit of time in the UK each year, and I don't see that at all. I'm curious as to why you feel that way. I would suggest you travel rather than rely on the internet to shape your ideas of international viewpoints. I think you will find that things are quite different than you have been led to believe, once you leave your own little corner of the world.

We would have to determine whether people from the UK actually do have "nothing but bad things to say about americans (sic)."
Which people from the UK do you mean? What part of the UK?Do they say only bad things? Do they say these bad things about all Americans?
You'll have to look at your first assumptions before the question can actually be answered.

They don't. We have always been fairly good friends, as nations. Some folks are jealous of Americans' material success, but not many. And some folks think we Americans are too power0hungry, and some of us are. But in general, we get along with the fine folks of the UK.

because most have never met real Americans, and judge America by the person who is meant to represent the country, and also they come across as really arrogant and loud when they are on television, and they are notoriously fat and unhealthy. i have only met about 2 in my life, but they were both pretty stupid and ignorant of life outside America
