Yes, Christmas in America has became horribly commercialized. I went in a Subway restaurant the day after Halloween, and there were Christmas Carols playing. I think we have to tune out the commercialism and make our own traditions between our families and friends, and don't even acknowledge the ads we see until at least the 2nd or 3rd week of December. Let the retailers see we will wait until the appropriate time for the rush to start by not buying presents until December, but, I feel this will never happen. We will soon be seeing Christmas decorations in August. Although we still missing the real reason for the season. WE ARE CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST....not our own...make the day meaningful in other ways.

Absolutely! The idea of running up your credit cards so high that you can't pay them off till August clearly demonstrates how misplaced American priorities are. Our entire economy is hugely dependent on the success of the Christmas shopping season.
Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that this year's holiday sales were down by a whopping 50%. The first to feel the pain would be retail shop owners and mega-retailers like Federated Department stores and Wal Mart. The stock market would then plummet, and interest rates would skyrocket, sending most of mainstream America into a panic the likes of which we have not seen since the crash of 1929 (which was followed by a DECADE of economic depression ).
So um, yeah, I think it's too commercialized.

Absolutly! Everyone is so busy buying and getting that we have forgotten the real meaning - and it's not "being together with family" or even "giving" - it's remembering Christ. That's the purpose - people can be offended and put up their Santa's and whatnot trying to be politically correct - but I dont celebrate Hannakah because I'm not Jewish - I celebrate Christmas because I'm a Christain (note that Christ is the root word in both of these.)
I knew a family once that only believed in giving homemade gifts or passing down something that would mean something special to the person they were giving it to. They would also donate their time to help those less fortunate than them. There was no money spent on the latest greatest video game or designer clothes. I think that makes Christmas much more special.

Yes, Christmas is WAY too commercialized. The evidence is when stores put their Christmas decorations up in October.
Do I think it's bad if kids hate Christmas? hmmmm...... I think it's sad when kids hate Christmas. The Christmas season can be so meaningful but I also think too many presents can be depressing. Christmas has so much more meaning when you serve other people from your heart.
Whether you are a Christian or not, giving service to others is a great way to feel happier. Try it. It really works (if you're not giving with a grudge).

Yes. Christmas is way too commercialized here in the states. It's all about buying, spending, and "What am I gonna get!". A co-worker was telling me that she started a new tradition in her family that I really like. Everyone gets only 3 gifts to represent the original gifts that Jesus was given by the 3 Kings. Don't hate Christmas, hate the fact that the real meaning has been lost!!!!

The true meaning of Christmas for america seems to be lost. Sure the hype is nice it's abit much though. Christ mas is about our Lord and Saviours birth that is what should be celebrated. Not how much money you have in your till or many gifts you have under your tree. It is the celebration of Jesus and the love you have in your heart.
Charlie Brown Christmas sums it up perfectly that has always been my favourite X-mas show since it first aired in 1968. Read Luke chapter 2 verses 1-11 that is what it's about. Please don't be a scrooge keep (Christ)mas in your heart.

Everything in America and the West has become too comercialized.
Instant Christmas, open package, add water, microwave for 10 minutes.
Hey, anyone in America work at a plant IN America that manufacures TV sets!
In 1960 99% of ALL TV sets in America were made in America.
Today's American TV set "Company" receives a pallet of TV sets from China via PMT, then puts labels on them and ships them by UPS to some store or person.
We're nothing more than a shipping and receive company in America. We stock shelves and take your cash. That's the American way.
God, forbid, we actually MAKE something in this country with our own two hands!

Yes, I do. But then again, I think that America is likely the most materialistic society in the entire history of mankind. We commercialize pretty much everything.
But, of all things, commercializing a religious holiday of any kind is crass; and being a Christian myslef, I find the commercialization of the birth of the Saviour of the World to be at the bottom end of crass!!

i also dont enjoy christmas as much anymore and i am still a kid too. Me personally, i dont like it because everyone ealse only thinks its about who gets the most gifts or who's gifts are better. you never hear anyone saying "i gave ___ amount of gifts this year". that is probably why people dont enjoy christmas as much, the younger kids might but once you start realizing that christmas isen't just about recieving gifts but its also about giving and having a good time with the ones you love then, that right there is the true meaning of christmas. i enjoy christmas a lot, but the only part i dont enjoy is the part when i hear people stressing about when they have time to go to the store to get gifts for their kids, parents, cousins, necis, nepheus and friends. if people would just stop for a monent and realize that christmas isnen't all about gits, its about making people happy and gifts wont do that, you can do it yourself without any kind of gift or anything ealse, all you need to do is give love. ...........oh yeah, and i think christmas is too comercialized, its just another reason for the stores to get more money and for us to spend more money.

Yes, it is commercialized but it is America and everything runs on the Almighty Dollar. I love getting home made gifts and fruit and nuts is a wonderful gift. It is silly to think we need to rush and shop until we drop to make a dead line. Give all year and you will get back. Merry Christmas
