You can't stop him honey. I know from personal experience how distressing it is to watch someone you care about harm themselves but they do it in responce to an inner pain you can't help either. You need to be the best friend you can be. Talk to them about why they do but NEVER tell them it's wrong and never try stop them. Make suggestions of using sterile equipment and using the same instrument to cause the incisions. Yes, make sure you tell your parents what is happening, if you are a young person, because it can be emotionally stressful for you too. If you find it too hard to cope with then walk away for a bit, don't get into an argument because that will only put more stress on the person harming and could cause them to self harm even more. There are many web sites you can visit to seek further help.

Offer him all the emotional support you can but force the issue of self harm, as a former self harmer having someone forcfully try and stop you doesn't help because you have to have the will to stop on your own. Interferance can slow the recovery.

it's not something that you can stop on your own.
there are emotional problems which you're friend is trying to block out with physical pain.
you need to support him in finding a good councellor and just be there for him when he needs to talk.
don't push him into seeing someone if he doesn't want to go straight away. you need to mention the subject carefully. otherwise he may start to see you as against him.
what he needs is a good friend.

A friend of mine used to do it and its a form of depression, she would do it when she was sad or angry and afterwards she would say she didnt remember actually cutting herself until she was covered in blood.Get him to the doctors and they will take it from there.I hope he gets sorted but its something that can go on for many years.

i would talk too him and ask him why he is doing this, he must be depressed and cutting himself will make him feel better about himself and in control, you really need too be a true friend too him, and help him get through this, it wont happen over night, and maybe he will need professional help, but with the support of friends n family he will soon one day realise that cutting himself isnt needed!! good luck xxx

hi there.
take this out of experience.
you cannot stop him.
he does this to feel alive. strange i know.
but when you feel the pain and see blood, then you...live.
do not tell the parents. they cant stop it either.
he doesnt need your support. he can stop on his own.
like someone said earlier, call a national helpline and get further advise.

you might want to talk to him about it and find out why he is. but dont make it where every one knows what he's doing because the roumor may spead and get out of control. if he doesn't open up think about a Counselor, but dont go to one right away all the attention and people knowing may make it worse.
