Does anyone know of a list of states that reiki is controlled by the massage therapist board?

I don't know of such a list, but I did find in Reiki magazine a claim that "Reiki laying on of hands healing was not to be considered massage therapy and, thereby does not require a professional massage license and educational requirements in order to be practiced in New York State."

That makes sense to me because reiki does not involve touch. Here's a link to the article, should you care to read it:

You do not need to have a massage license to practice Reiki. If you are going to have a practice where you charge for your services I suggest you invest in certifying as a Reiki Master and that you invest in a Skilled Master Teacher who will make you invest time in learning and practicing after each attunement before you progress to the next level and that you make time to receive Reiki treatments as well as give them between each level of your own training. I do not recommend those become a Master in a weekend deals. I believe that before you charge money for your service, you need to have some experience, some real training and have some disciplined practice at keeping your self out of the way as the energy does it's work and some good experience and practive at being a clean and open vessel for the energy to work through and to hold safe space for your clients. This takes time and practice. A massage license is not a bad idea though as it does give you another service that you may offer, as the average person is not familiar with Reiki but does know massage. One could offer an extra 10 minutes of Reiki for free at the end of a massage session to give the client the experience and see if they may like a Reiki sesson in the future. But if massage does not interest you then don't do it because it is not needed for Reiki practice. Good luck to you.
