Since you don't have a doctor to call, there are numerous free clinics you can take your son to. Doctors generally tell you to call if a fever reaches 102, and always if it cannot be lowers by advil or tylenol. Find a clinic and get him in -there might be a long wait.
I see a lot of questions where people jump to saying "Take your baby to the ER!!" but in this instance, if you cannot find a clinic, I would take him in right away.

I would say take him to a doctor, regardless of whether or not you have insurance. If you have a doctor you used before you didn't have insurance go there if they can get you in right NOW, get him in anywhere a doctor will see him. The hospital visit will be much more expensive, but it may be the only choice you have if you can't get in a reg. doctor. Fever's are not something to mess with because they mean his body's trying to kill and infection, and if you don't know what it is at least get him somewhere where someone can help him if something comes up. While you're doing this though, get him cooled down. Take his clothes off, use just a light sheet, cold compresses on his forehead. If you can, get him in a cold bath! And after this is all over with, check with your local family services department about getting him some insurance! They can provide cheap or even free insurance if you have limited income.

The only time my 17 month old daughter gets fevers that high is when she has an ear infection. We've been to the ER twice recently with 104-105 fevers and bulging inner ear infections. That's weird for a doctor to not be more concerned with such a high fever because it can cause seizures. If the Tylenol doesn't lower it within an hour of giving it I would be concerned.

1st and foremost, fluids, lightly layered clothes, ibuprofen every 6 hours, tylenol every 4 hours. You can mix by alternating every 3 hours a different one. Don't overdose the baby no Ibuprofen more than 4 times in one day.
2nd, check your county and go to the county hospital. They will service you for free if you don't have a certain amount of income. Also, some hospitals will direct you to billing or social services where the State can help pay for the coverage. Most doctor offices if you ask will charge probably 75-150 just to check up your baby and prescribe medication. If you have the budget and need help quick, call around and ask for a price. You really need the antibiotics and fluids. Definitely a doctor to give the proper prognosis.
Don't forget go to the County Hospital, you won't have to pay right away and they will expediate the process for state insurance for your child.

Hes sick thats whats wrong :) You will be okay. First when you take a temp under the arm you are suppost to add a degree, so if you didnt do that his temp would be approx 103.3. Next you dont need to take him in for that. Try giving him a lukewarm bath. And give him some more advil at about 3-3:30 if the fever hasnt broke by then. Then when he gets out of the bath, get him dressed and lay him on the couch with some cartoons on and a sippy cup. Push the fluids as much as possible. Food isnt as important right now as the fluids are, water, juice, whatever he will drink. Or even ice pops. Goodluck and hang in there he will be just fine :) I have four boys and pregnant with baby 5 :)
Dont listen to these people, they sound like first time nuts lol......His fever will break and things will be just fine, Get use to is they are kids and this will happen ALOT :) i wish i could show you a pic of all four of our little boys laying with pillows and blankets all over the sectional couch, with cups of water and buckets to throw up in next to them. Its part of being sick and theres nothing the hos or dr will do for him unless hes dehydrated which i DOUBT he is...

That is a pretty high fever under the arm. If the tylenol/motrin helps to reduce the fever, then I would keep a very close eye on him and hold off on the hospital. If not, then I would take him. I don't know what your financial situation is but I do know that if you don't have insurance, take your child to the er, and qualify for medicaid, then the hospital will assist in applying for medicaid once you have been billed for the visit.

102.3 is a fever yes, but to rush to the er no. you did the right thing by giving motrin, it can be given every 6 hours and tylenol if needed can be given every four hours. If the motrin took the fever down and he is more comfortable that is great. As long as he continues to pee and drink, he's not dehydrated. meaning his mouth is moist, eyes moist, eyes are not sunnken in, he has a good pink color in his nail beds you can wait a couple of days. If the fever is not going down or it gets to be 104-105, he stops peeing or drinking or has a lot of diarreah I would take him than. If his fever lasts more than 2-3 days than i would take him. A lot of kids get viral syndrome in the winter. You can go to the er to see a doc. they can not turn you away. if you have questions please email me

Please take your son to the health department or the emergency room right away. Anything over 102 can lead to convulsions/seziures. Don't take that chance. I am where you are as far as insurance. Your child's health isn't worth playing with regardless of the medical bills that may come up. Take him right away. A fever is the body's way of fighting infection which is a good thing. It is the prolonged elevated body temp that can cause the problems.

Looks like you may want to go -- this is from familydoctor.org:
When should I call the doctor?
If your child has any of the warning signs listed in the box below, call your family doctor.
Three months and older. If your child has a fever of 101.4°F, watch how he or she acts. Call your doctor if the fever rises or lasts for more than 3 days. In children 3 months to 2 years of age, if the temperature is 102°F, call your doctor even if your child seems to feel fine.

TAKE HIM TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW!!! It is probably just an infection that can be treated easily at this point, but if you wait, it will only get worse and harder to treat.
Then, apply for insurance through your state health department. I know how hard it is to be un-insured. ALso, ask around - some doctor's offices have payment plans or sliding-scale fees for patients without insurance.
