Well, the money is not rightfully yours if it is a mistake, and if they catch it themselves you will have to pay it back anyway. So... honesty is the best policy here. There are two possible outcomes.
1) They will tell you it is not a mistake and that it is some sort of bonus.
2) They will tell you it is a mistake and at minimum you will probably get points for your honesty.
Conversely, if you don't speak up the most likely outcomes are:
1) Nobody will notice but you will always know you are keeping something that doesn't rightfully belong to you.
2) They will find out and at best will believe that they need to watch their back around you or at worst will put you at the head of the next downsizing list for your dishonesty.

Phone payroll and ask
Because this is what'll happen next pay, after they realize the error, if it is an error.
You won't get a next pay check. They'll deem you as already having received it as an advance.
Then if you've already spent the money, you're in a bind. Common payroll practise is to handle overpayments in this fashion.
If it's not a mistake, payroll can advise you why the excess and bonus!!!
Do yourself a favor, make the call

Make your company aware that a made a mistake, because when the company figures it out, they will come ask for you to pay it back anyways. It is better to do it now, then when it happens a few times and there is a lot more money to give back.

What if this is a test? Tell the administrators and make them aware of what has happened. If not, that is why people think they can get away with anything. I think not telling would be a very unethical way to go about it. Who knows, if they like the honesty, they might tell you to keep it anyways. LET THEM KNOW!

Tell the bank. They will thank you and take the money out.
Otherwise, they are going to automatically take it out in 6+ months (maybe making you overdraft) and then tell you.
They WILL find out because if their payroll budget doesn't balance, they almost always find the error. What you just experienced is somewhat common (happened to me twice) and is the first place they look when 'they' don't have accounts that balance.

The honest thing to do is to report it to administration. If a mistake was made, then you will have to pay it back. They can probably make an adjustment on their end, e.g. subtract the amount of overpayment from your next check.
I think that if you don't report it and they catch the error, it will reflect poorly on your integrity.

I'm sure someone will catch the mistake sooner or later,so if I were you I would tell the administration about it. That way you won't spend money that your going to have to pay back. I know the temptation is hard but you will have to pay it back.

You should report it. Besides it being the ethical thing to do, your company does have a right to try and get the money back from you if it is an accounting error.

Either you give it back, or they'll automatically withdraw the deposit from your account. Or, they could simply not pay you for x amount of weeks until the full amount is covered.
You're asking for trouble if you don't give it back. They'll notice... that's a guarantee.

UK: and I am confident that it is the same elsewhere, you would be guilty of Theft if you kept something which you know you do not have a right to and it is as a result of someone elses mistake.
It is unlikely that your company would prosecute you but they could deduct the full amount from your next paycheck. Speak to your line manager and do not spend the cash..................
