When you mean 'making' a website, i do not refer to those mickey mouse stuff which people call a website (asdf.piczo.com etc).

Basically, if u r talking about professional web design then u should consider the following steps. : -

Step 1 -
Planning

Plan the layout of your website on paper. When i mean plan, i mean just a rough sketch. This would give u a faint idea of what ur gonna 'construct'.

Step 2 -
Designing

Use a professional software like Photoshop CS2/CS3 to design the layout for your website. This designing would be a colourful representation of your plan.

Step 3 -
Coding

This is when you give life to your web layout by telling the browser what each thing is. I find this part to be the most tedious bit. Coding can be made easier by using professional software like Dreamweaver.

Step 5 -
Uploading

This is when you upload all your files.

Step 6 -
Testing

This is when you ask people to have to look at your website and criticize.

And finally,

Step 7-
Finalizing

This is when you carry out the changes and then finalize your website.

Phewwwwwww pretty long isnt it?? This is how I personally design websites.

Hope that helps.
Thanks.

That sort of depends on what the website is for and where you want to make it. If you want something like Geocities or Tripod, go there and read their tutorials.

If you want to host your own website like the pros, that's more complicated. Take a course from a local Community College.

Since you already have a Yahoo ID, go to http://www.geocities.com and create a page. You don't need to know anything about HTML programming as the entire environment is point and click. That's where I created my personal website. You can choose either a simple one-page site or a multi-page site. They even have pre-made background templates. Click the link below to check out what I did.

well you can buy a book that can tell everything on making a web site, it is not as easy as typing a few words. web sites like http://www.google.com look simple, but are very complicated. so do what i said or do a search for html and print out some info
