I live in a canyon with two really furry dogs and constantly fight dust. My sister gave me a tip that helped cut down on the number of times a week we have to dust. Use a fabric softener sheet on the surfaces of your furniture and items that seem to collect dust. For some reason, it leaves an anti-static residue that keeps the dust from collecting.

There are some good ideas here, some of which I would recommend as well, such as having your duct work cleaned, using a good vacuum with a Hepa filter. Also use a vacuum that has a dusting attachment and use that to dust before you use the swiffer cloths or other dusting product. Also replace your filter in your heating system with a Hepa filter that is washable rather than replaced every month. They cost around $60 depending on the size you need, but they make all the difference in the world. Also use a filter in your return air duct. Use the washable filters that look like a Brillo pad and are cut to size. Wash them once a week, you will be astonished at the amount of dust and hair it will pull out of the air!

Maybe there is dust in your ductwork that is blowing into the living spaces in your home. You can get your ducts cleaned by a professional cleaner.
Also, the more people and animals you have in the home, the more dust you will have, because dust is mostly made of dead skin cells from people and animals. So you might just have to dust more often.

You need a decent vacuum cleaner. Look at Miele and Lindhaus models. Most vacuum cleaners are really just aeresolizing machines for fine-dust particles. You may also want to consider an air purification system. IQ Air makes these.

Shower often, and it wouldn't hurt to use an air purifier like at sharper image (voted best)
AND FOR GODS SAKE OPEN YOUR WINDOWS!!!! Contrary to popular opinion, the dust isn't coming from out there. More than 80% of dust in your home is dead skin cells and small dead bacteria from your breath (that's everyone, I'm not saying you're dirty, I just mean this is natural).
The only way to keep thatdust out of your house, and keep the windows shut, is to ....not go in your house.

Dust doesn't only come from the outside environment but also from us people and clothes. Vacuuming and dusting every other day would lessen the dust.
