I mean, for a shot at a normal life. Sri Lanka and East India is kinda messed up.

im native american but i was adopted by a sri-lankan family, they came here for a better life and they said america was the only way to do that

If every Tamil will think your way then a day will come there will be no tamil left back home. Coming to USA is just escape from the reality and brave are those nations who fight for their rights and get them. If you keep escaping to the foreign land then remember my words history and historian will never forgive you and so will do your generations to come coz they will never be a first class citizen in a foreign land. Fight for your rights, stay at home and wait for good times.
