Good article outlining dual-core or dual-processor systems. Most newer Intel chips (e.g. Core 2 Duo) utilize dual core technology.

Your processor speed is 2.6 GHz, it's just that you have essentially two separate CPUs working in tandem on your system.

@ processors gives your more speed to your computer for better performance its almost liek a dual core. You are running a dual 2.6 pentium 4 Processors. That is what you would say.

If you have a hyperthreaded CPU, it will report back to the OS (windows in this case) that it's infact two CPUs.

The speed measure I suspect is accurate. A 2.6 ghz CPU doesn't always show exactly 2.6 because of timing differences in motherboards and so on.

Measuring processor speed isn't as easy as it used to be. With two processors, your speed can't be measured in the old way using the clock speed. Typically, a dual processor can do most jobs faster than a single processor of the same clock speed but it depends how much multi-tasking you are doing.

...or something.

You don't have dual core if you are running a 2.6Ghz but you do have Hyper-threading which is when parts of the processor which are not being used those are put to use when you multi-task.

2 cpu's will perform much faster than single. You can't add frequency to compute your speed, but 2 cores working will process more threads much more efficiently. It is much like two people laying bricks- each one can lay 20 bricks per minute, but together they will lay much more bricks in any given time.
