If you have not had a period for 10 months and you just started one, I think I would call your doctor and ask about it. To alleviate the pain you can also try a heating pad or hot water bottle, a hot bath, and Percogesic. Percogesic is a little bit stronger over-the-counter pain reliever in which the pain medication is coupled with an antihistamine which intensifies the effect of the pain reliever and makes you more relaxed, sometimes even a little drowsy. It's good for more severe pain. You can get it pretty much anywhere.

Why such a large gap between your periods?!? Anyways I use a hot water bottle from shoppers. It sooths and really does help. I find that no amount of advil, tylenol or anything works except for Anaprox which your doctor prescribes for you. It relaxes the muscles that give you grief. I wouldn't have survived without it.
Do a google search on Anaprox and then speak with your doc.

Try a hot water bottle on your belly. Drink some raspberry leaf tea. Not flavored raspberry tea, but raspberry LEAF tea. You can get it at the health food store. Also, try some aromatherapy and a warm bath. I've been there many times. I've been through it when the pain killers don't work, and this is what I do and it helps. It doesn't totally take the pain away, but it does calm it down.

I use to take Aleve that's the only thing that ever worked for me. Hope that it will help. I don't have periods any more so I don't have to worry about them any more.
