"mr know it all " was close but, not quite right.
The prolblem is a blend door motor, not a relay.........
This is a common problem.
I've replaced several....

How about some leaves that got down in there this fall? The fan hitting them would make that noise. Maybe a relay contact switching on and off noise. Keep driving until something blows up. That's the easy way to find the problem in this case anyways. Try turning the blower speed to high for awhile.

I've got a 91' Chevy 2500, and I've looked into it in the past.
What's happening is the heater controls are run by little electric motors that open and close vent doors.
When these little motors reach their limit as far as opening, or closing these doors, the "ratchet" on a limit spring so the motor won't burn up.
All that's happening, is the motor is trying to open or close a vent that has already reached its limit of movement.
Don't sweat it. It's kind of normal.

These types of "problems" aren't worth the time or energy to find. If you aren't noticing any decrease in engine performance I would not investigate it. You're truck is about 12 years old. Sometimes things start to rattle that aren't anything major.

Sounds like a climate control switch.
