Yes it is safe for someone of middle eastern ancestery to travel in the US. There are over ten million muslims living the US and 1.2 million Americans of Arab ancestry. I am an American that has been living in the middle east for several years and have many Arab freinds who have travelled extensivly throughout the US without any problems.

There are good and bad people everywhere in the world, sorry to say, but fortunately the good ones outnumber the bad ones.

You're probably safer traveling the U.S. than you would be traveling through many other places, but there's always a risk when you go to places with which you are not familiar. Locals can help you avoid the more dangerous places in any locale, but even in the safest of places there's always the possibility of a random crazy person, even if it's only 1 in a million chance. Actually, you're probably statistically more likely to get in a car accident than anything else, as far as bad things happening.

As far as profiling by security personnel, well, that can't be helped, and it might be likely. The thing is, if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear. If you get detained at the airport or something, don't sweat it. Just think of it as any other travel nuisance. It's like worrying about the weather. Sure, it might be annoying, but don't let it bother you.

It's safe in most areas. I would stay away from the really rural areas though, because people there are less tolerant. Then again people may think you're White, Latin, or Black (depending on how you look).
